How it works

How to play D&D 5e online with an AI Game Master that can't cheat

LoomMaster runs a real 5e session right in your browser - solo at 2am or co-op with friends across time zones. You play in plain English; a real rules engine rolls and validates every die, and the AI Game Master only narrates what already happened. No rulebook, no setup, no human GM required. Here is exactly how a session works.

Step 1 - Pick a hero

Roll a character, or let it pick one for you.

Open the builder and make a level 1 hero by the book - class, ancestry, background, the lot - or take the guided quick-start that hands you a playable hero in a few taps and tells you how each class actually feels to play. Already have a character? Import an existing build and it is parsed, validated, and ready in minutes. New to 5e? You never need to have read a wiki first - a searchable in-game Codex explains every class, condition, and rule in plain words.

Step 2 - Say what you do

Tell the Game Master your move, like a real table.

Type what your hero does the way you would say it out loud - "I sneak along the wall and listen at the door", "I cast Bless on the front line", "I swing at the nearest cultist". The Director reads your intent, works out which roll the rules call for, and sets it up. No menus to hunt through, no command syntax to memorize. Not sure what is possible? Just ask - it guides you like a patient table-mate.

Step 3 - The engine rolls, the AI narrates

The dice are real. The story is the only thing the AI writes.

This is what makes LoomMaster different from a chatbot pretending to be a GM. Every d20, attack, save, and crit is rolled on the server, checked against the actual 5e rules, and written to a tamper-evident ledger before a single word of narration exists. The AI Game Master never sees a blank die to fill in - it sees the result and describes it.

It cannot fudge a roll for you, and it cannot fudge one against you. No "you hit" when you missed, no invented spell slots, no rules it half-remembers. Cast Bless and it rolls a real +1d4 into your attacks and saves; a paralyzed foe truly cannot act. The story bends; the math does not - which is what makes a session feel like a real table instead of a generous parrot. Afterward you can mint a public Loom Seal that re-verifies every natural d20 your campaign rolled, so anyone can check the dice were never touched.

Step 4 - The world remembers

Close the tab. Come back. The story is still there.

Every choice, every person you met, every roll is saved on the server. The Director carries persistent memory across sessions, so you never re-explain who you are or what happened last week - the story just continues. NPCs remember what you did and react. The world even moves while you are away: prices drift, feuds sharpen, fresh rumours circulate. Play solo, or bring a full party into one shared, remembering campaign.

The proof

"The engine owns the dice" is provable, not a promise.

That deterministic core is published source-available - one Rust core that runs byte-identically in TypeScript, Python, and Rust (npm, PyPI, crates.io). It cleared an external security and determinism audit and ships with thousands of tests green. Honest dice you can read and replay yourself - see exactly how the dice stay honest.
